The CAT Online Free Test Prep MCQs Geometry - Perimeter and Area

ABCD is a square and one of its sides AB is also a chord of the circle as shown in the figure. What is the area of the square?

A | B | C | D | E |

Side AB is the hypotenuse of the ΔAOB. Hence, by The Pythagorean Theorem, we have AB^{2} = AO^{2} + BO^{2} =
3^{2} + 3^{2} = 18. Hence, the area of the square ABCD equals side^{2} = AB^{2} = 18. The answer is (E).
